On November 30, 2021, Ambassador Željko Jović held a meeting with the Mayor of the Municipality of Kardzhali, Mr. Hasan Azis. They discussed the possibilities of developing cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Municipality of Kardzhali, in the field of culture and sports, as well as on the economic plan.
       The Mayor of the Municipality of Kardzhali, Mr. H. Azis presented the activities and current projects of the Municipality, and the development of the business sector. He pointed out that in previous years (2005/2006), the production of tobacco and fruit was the mostly present, although in the recent period, the production is primarily focused on car parts and machinery industry, as well as lead and zinc production. Mr. Azis added that the unemployment rate in this Municipality is very low. In this regard, he stated that there are 117 villages on the territory of the Municipality, where there are about 130,000 inhabitants, among which 60,000 people live in the town of Kardzhali.
      Ambassador Ž. Jović presented the current business climate in the Republic of Serbia, modalities and potentials for economic development, as well as investment opportunities. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Embassy and the Municipality, primarily in order to strengthen the economic potential of the two countries. To that end, it has been agreed to proceed to the twinning of the Municipality of Kardzhali with one of the municipalities in the Republic of Serbia.
